GarageBand for Windows
I was given the challenge to find GarageBand for Windows by my daughter. She had used GarageBand on a Apple at her school. I’m also hoping to use a product like this for working on my music (piano and drums). So this is my journey. Hopefully this will help you too if you have the same challenge.
Requirements:
- Take existing songs and mix them together.
- Take short clips from songs
- Adjust the tempo as needed
- overlap songs
- Create new songs with a variety of inputs
- Midi input from Keyboard
- Midi input from Electronic drums
- vocal input from mic
- other existing songs (like the mix above)
- other input from mic
- Easy to use
- Variety of output choices
- CD
- mp3
- Inexpensive
- Works on Windows XP with 512meg of Ram

Try SUPER DUPER MUSIC LOOPER BY Sonic Foundry!
Take a look at FLStudio at http://www.fruityloops.com. The FruityLoops or Producer edition just might do the trick…
Fruity Loops Studio is probably the best out there right now. I wanted to get GarageBand too at first, but FL studio turned out to be much better. You can get it for $50-70 at http://www.academicsuperstore.com
Your problem with Audacity is you didn’t have anything selected! When you want to edit certain sections, you select the part you want to change, THEN go to the effects menu. Try that.
it sucks, theres nothing that can compare to the real apple mac garage band

I have found one piece of software Acoustic Mixcraft4 at http://www.acoustica.com/
I have it running on my 512mb ram XP pc and works brillliantly!
You can use a lot of things which are like garageband, one of them which i am downloading is Acousta Mixcraft 4 which apparently is very good.

well mixcraft seemed to be alright but still cant find the option to get the piano pop-up to play on..and it’s kinda costy but i ‘m just messing with the demo till i get back on my friends garageband.
when your use someone else song and mix it up , can u take out the singer voice and use the beat.delete the voice keep the beat.
Sonic Foundry invented this technology years ago!
They invented ACID and everything from garage band to fruity loops is a direct copy. Fruity Loop from cakewalk(roland) got it’s legs in Europe and came back to the states. Graphically garage band looks good but, it’s the same old stuff. A semi pro light program. Sony bought Sonic foundry for 18 million dollars and has push Acid to be a full service program like logic, digital performer, pro tools etc. These programs are the most fun and the easiest way to put an idea out!! my 2 cents
Mixcraft is what you want. It’s just as easy to use as garage band for mac and look almost exactly the same. Mixcraft FTW!

I think Mixcraft is the best out of them all, now Mixcraft 5 is released it is totally comparable to GarageBand and you can even do video editing now too, if your looking for a DAW on a budget then Mixcraft is the way to go. It has an on-screen keyboard, so you dont need to have a midi keyboard and you can even use GarageBand loops if you want to.
Couldn’t agree more, actually for me Mixcraft has totally replaced GarageBand even though I have access to both, in many ways Mixcraft 5 is better and has more functions and less limitations, but at the same time being easy to use 10/10 from me
